How to read the Süper Lig table

The Süper Lig table columns are: Pos (position), P (matches played), W (wins), D (draws), L (losses), GF (goals for), GA (goals against), GD (goal difference) and Pts (points). Teams are ranked by total points. If two or more clubs are level on points, the common tiebreakers used in many leagues are applied, such as goal difference, goals scored and head-to-head records. The exact order of tiebreakers is set each season by the Turkish Football Federation and is displayed on official standings.

Format

The Süper Lig is Turkey’s top professional football division. It consists of 18 teams, each playing 34 rounds (a double round-robin format) from August to May. There are no split phases or championship playoffs — the team that finishes first after 34 matches is crowned champion. A standard three points are awarded for a win and one for a draw.

Promotion, relegation & qualification

The Süper Lig champion qualifies directly for the UEFA Champions League group stage. The runners-up and third-placed team usually enter Champions League qualifying rounds, while the fourth-placed side and the Turkish Cup winner go into the UEFA Europa League. The fifth-placed team often enters the UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds. At the bottom, the three teams that finish 16th, 17th and 18th are relegated to the TFF First League (1. Lig).

What to watch in the table

  • Title race: The fight for the championship is frequently tight between Istanbul giants such as Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş, alongside ambitious challengers like Trabzonspor.
  • European qualification: The battle for the top four or five spots is intense, with clubs chasing Champions League, Europa League and Conference League berths.
  • Relegation scrap: The bottom three positions change often as teams fight to avoid dropping into the second tier. The 16th-place side is the first relegation spot.
  • Form swings: Because the league runs through winter, mid-season form and squad depth can dramatically reshape the super lig standings.
