The format could hardly be simpler: a straight double round-robin in which all 20 clubs meet home and away between August and May. There is no split, no playoff round and no points reset — the team with the most points after 38 rounds is champion of England.
You will see the competition referred to in several ways. EPL is the common abbreviation overseas, North American audiences tend to say standings rather than table, older fans still say the Premiership, and between 2004 and 2016 sponsorship made it the Barclays Premier League. European qualification & relegation
The top four places qualify for the UEFA Champions League league phase, and England’s strong UEFA coefficient has frequently turned fifth place into a Champions League berth as well.
