Each column in the league table is standard across European football:

- P — matches played
- W — wins (3 points each)
- D — draws (1 point each)
- L — losses (0 points)
- GF — goals for
- GA — goals against
- GD — goal difference (GF − GA)
- Pts — total points
If two or more teams are level on points, the organiser (LFP) uses head-to-head record, then overall goal difference, then goals scored. Exact tiebreakers are set by the league and may vary slightly from season to season.
Format
The French second division features 18 clubs playing a double round-robin (34 matchdays). The season typically runs from August to May, with a winter break in December/January. There is no split or championship round — every team plays each other home and away.
Promotion, relegation & qualification
The table determines the following outcomes:
- Top two (positions 1–2): automatic promotion to Ligue 1.
- Third place (position 3): enters a promotion play-off against the 16th-placed team in Ligue 1 (winner plays in Ligue 1 the following season).
- 17th and 18th places: relegation to the third-tier Championnat National.
- 16th place: enters a relegation play-off against a team from National.
